Ticks are horrible and a big problem for some hill and field walkers. Their bite can transmit nasties, most notably Lyme Disease, that can really harm both you and your dog. While humans are advised to cover up bare skin when walking in trouble spots, your dog can't do that. If you see a tick on your dog you should remove it ASAP and store it for possible later analysis. The tick buries into the skin with little hooks. The correct way to remove it is with head intact. This means you must pull while twirling it, not simply pull it straight out with tweezers.
